7 superhero movies that you must watch
Author: Ruth Rodriguez
The last decade has seen more superhero movie releases than ever before, and it’s safe to say that no genre has influenced pop culture quite like superhero fiction. What’s clear is that if you look for superhero movies on the Internet, there are plenty that will populate your feed. But if you’re looking for ones that won’t disappoint, read on.
Here’s a list of the seven best superhero movies that are worth your time:
- The Incredibles (2004)
It’s not always Marvel and DC that give us all the amazing superhero movies. Sometimes, they even take notes from their competitors—in this case, it’s Pixar’s take on superheroes. The Incredibles revolves around a family of undercover superheroes who get back into action after being summoned for a top-secret assignment. - Hellboy II – The Golden Army (2008)
Hellboy may have been a whopping success, but Guillermo del Toro took it up a notch with film number two. The movie ranked first at the box office and grossed more than $30 million over the weekend. It was one of the biggest box office openings of Guillermo del Toro’s directing career. Hellboy II: The Golden Army follows Hellboy and his team of superheroes as they prepare to fight a prince of the mythical world who wishes to rule Earth. - Thor – Ragnarok (2017)
We must give it to director Taika Waititi for turning Thor’s character around and reconceptualizing him as a conceited, comedic mess. The film may not necessarily be the best movie lot-wise, but it does make for the funniest Marvel venture as yet. Thor: Ragnarok starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, aka God of Thunder, follows Thor as he races against time to stop the cruel villain Hela from destroying his home, Asgard. You may want to keep an eye out for any power overload, given the intense lightning strikes brought on by the God of Thunder. - The Avengers (2012)
Take all your favorite superheroes and throw them together in a film. What do you get? The Avengers—a blockbuster that spawned a movie series. The squad of superheroes comes together to destroy Loki, the God of Mischief, from enslaving humanity. This was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to earn over $1 billion. Impressive, right? - Logan (2017)
The movie, starring Hugh Jackman as the titular character, came straight out of left-field and stunned us with its plot. Logan, who has physically aged and lost most of his powers to self-heal, lives in a dystopian world with a dwindling mutant population. He is forced to come out of retirement to escort a young mutant, chased by evil scientists, to a safe place. - Deadpool (2016)
Bloodshed, killer-dialogues, romance, comedy, and oodles of sarcasm—that’s what the movie’s about. But you may want to keep the kids away from this one because it got an R-rating. You don’t want to mess with Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, because circumstances have turned him into an immortal superhero vigilante who is out to exact revenge on a twisted scientist. Talk about a good plot! - Wonder Woman (2017)
The plot is simple: Princess Diana, played by Gal Gadit, is an Amazonian warrior in training who leaves home to stop the merciless Ares, the God of War, from destroying Earth. As she embarks on her journey to stop all wars, Diana discovers her powers and true destiny. Did you know? This is the first female-dominant superhero film released in over a decade after Elektra (2005). This is because female-led superhero movies seldom got the appreciation they deserved.
